    Free Chinese Ebooks

Post  Baochai on Sat Sep 01, 2012 4:05 am

As I've rambled about here, Chinese influences are good for your Pandaren, and stuff like Chinese books are good.

Now here's another good thing: A lot of Chinese literature is kind of, ah, old, and thus public domain, and there's also public domain translations out there.

Take for example the following link, which is where I got Three Kingdoms many years ago and read the novel through (totally worth it... totally)

    www.threekingdoms.com

Ta da! This website provides an old translation but updates all the names to pinyin. Sweet eh?

But hey I know what you're thinking. Kegg, isn't there anything not ridiculously long I could read?

    Glad you've asked.

Here's one of the few Confucian texts actually attributed to Confucius, the Analects:

And here's an essential text for you guys who want to be pseudo-Chinese war pros Sun Tzu's Art of War...

How about the Tao Te Ching, if you want some interesting mystical stuff? Ever hear of the Yinyang, because this is basically the text about that.

Well class that's enough assigned reading for right now. Dismissed.

Addendum: I've opined about wuxia before (you know, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, all that nonsense) and briefly noted there are, you know, wuxia books. The most popular stuff appears to be stuff that was written in serialized papers in the twentieth century, essentially Chinese pulp fiction (indeed just such a writer is a protagonist in a Wong Kar-wai film but moving on).

What if I told you there's dedicated and free fan translations of a ton of wuxia books? I haven't read any (and remember these are fan translations, with everything that may imply), but if you were looking for tales of derring-do and Chinese people beating each other up:

    You're welcome, guild.
